Training is in full swing for my next 5K! I will be running in the Village Days Dash on August 12th in Greendale, WI. Click here to join the fun!
My goal for this event is to run it faster than my previous two races. The time to beat is 00:27:43! As a mom of two, my previous race training philosophy has been “run when you can”… and I totally count running after my toddler as a workout! However, for this race I am going for time, and need a more structured plan. I am loosely following Hal Higdon’s Intermediate Running Plan. By loosely, I mean I follow as closely as I can, but I am careful to listen to my body and rest when its needed. I also allow for flexibility of other fun Summer activities like biking, hiking etc!
There are 5 weeks to go till race day, but already I am feeling stronger. There are tons of different running programs to follow based on where you are in your fitness journey. Hal Higdon has training plans for beginners to advanced runners (found here). Couch to 5k programs are great for beginners as well and start with a lot of run/walk intervals. Run/walking a 5k is totally cool as well! You don’t have to run the whole thing, you just have to finish. Everybody starts somewhere!
